Art Bras Saturday May 18th at Stamford Arts Centre

I have been a member of Stamford Artisans Guild for about three years now. When I moved to England I googled in search of art guilds and groups in the area and the Stamford Group came up. I applied for a stall and everyone was so welcoming the first show I did, it was a great experience. Since then I have participated in almost all the shows in both Stamford and Oakham and have become part of the Committee. Last year I was in charge of the shows which was brilliant for my self-esteem and taught me a lot about business. This year I am in charge of Demonstrations and Exhibitions both of which are new this year to our shows.

As artisans we wanted to show off our talents and create unique pieces to go on display. I decided that this theme would be making Art Bras after I had done a similar successful project when I lived in Downers Grove, IL (outside of Chicago). When I discussed this idea at our meeting many members were excited about creating these Art Bras. During the meeting I saw a couple of our members even sketching their ideas. Many of our guild members will be showcasing their talents by creating an Art Bra in their own medium. There will be wood bras, cake bras, textiles, beaded and wire bras, glass bras, knitted bras and more. It will be an amazing showcase of talent. A lot of the bras have stories behind them and represent the fight that some of our Artisans family and friends have gone through. After the exhibition some of the bras will be sold on our guild website with the profits going to Cancer Research UK. So be sure to check out

I have been sketching ideas for the bra that I am creating and now it is in the final stages. I have only seen the effects of cancer from afar and haven’t seen anyone’s struggle closely in my life yet. It’s interesting that I say “yet” though because it seems that Cancer is becoming a disease that affects so many people that everyone is due to see people being affected by in their lifetime. I am creating a bra that depicts the bravery and courage that I believe any cancer sufferer has to have to battle a such a strong disease. My piece is made from a lot of local Shetland and Alpaca wool. It has been needle and wet felted using many different techniques.

Luckily we won’t need to have live models for our Art Bras because some of they may be a bit uncomfortable to wear. Each Artisan has come up with a unique way to display their bras. The pieces will be displayed on the stage at the Arts Centre with the information about the charity and the stories of the Art Bras. I can’t believe that in a week from today I will be on my way to London. I will be revealing 6 new kits at the fair and my goodness it has taken me a long time to put them together! After the feedback I had last year I decided to gear towards selling mostly kits and only a few animals and flowers that have been made by me. People wanted to know how to make everything on my stand last year. This year they will be able to buy the kit and make it themselves.

My friends Mark, Amanda, and Phil have helped me so much by helping me make my idea for the stand come to life. Branches have been painted, jars filled, shelves cut and painted, etc etc. I have completed almost all my tutorials now and just need to print them out, assemble them and add them to the kits. I am aiming to have 300 kits on sale at the fair and so far I have 140 completely made. It’s going to be a busy week.

Country Living Spring Fair Plan For Stand

My friend Phil came over on Friday to discuss my plans for the Country Living Fair. He had made me a scale model of the stand which was fantastic. I took a photo of the model on the Ipad then filled it with what the stand will actually look like. My new bird kits will be taking centre stage with the felted birds perched on the tree. The stand is a bit smaller than last years but will be a lot more colourful. Last year I went for a natural theme and this year is more of a Sweet Shop theme.

I am lucky enough to be exhibiting at the Country Living Show 2013 and this year I will be teaching a needle felting workshop in the Craft Workshop Room.

I will be teaching people how to make needle felted easter eggs and rabbits to hang on an Easter Tree.

At the fair I will be selling my felting kits including 2 new kits to make birds and Woodland Animals.

I have found it hard to keep up with the blog and website since the end of the summer due to all of the work that I have had to do. My two goals this year for my business were to do two big shows and to find lots of outlets for my work. I have suceeded in both goals amazingly. I have found lots of outlets and now am busy making stock for all of them. Therefore the website doesn’t have a lot of content or products. Hopefully I will be able to update some more stock in November.

This month I have completed a custom order for a bride’s wedding hair flowers and sold 3 pieces of Felt Artwork (to hang on the walls). Also have almost sold out of stock in Things British in Carnaby Street and Art in the Heart in Peterborough.

Several weeks ago my neighbour was visiting Peterborough and came across and empty shop with a sign that said they were looking for quality artisans for their new shop/gallery. She quickly text me the info and a photo of the shop. I went for a visit last week and met the owner, Dawn. She was impressed with my animals and kindle cases. Today I went back and dropped off some of my stock. So starting from tomorrow you will be able to buy some of my pieces at their shop: If you are local please go have a look in the shop. It is a lovely well lit and perfectly arranged gallery and shop with an ecclectic mix of crafts and art.

Joint Art Exhibition at the Carre Gallery in Sleaford this week!

I am in Sleaford for the week at the Carre Gallery selling my felt artwork and sharing the space with my friend Phil Janes, an acrylic artist. The exhibition has been a success so far and we have only been open a couple of days. The exhibition began on Monday and although it was pouring with rain and freezing people still managed to come see us in the day. The evening we had a little party with friends and family coming and some delicious canapes made by my mum Kate and friend Laura. I sold two of my pieces during the evening and so I was very happy.

We are at the gallery from the 24th till the 29th of September and the gallery is open from 10amm-4pm. Phil and I are taking it in turns to man the exhibition so be sure to come down a visit.
